Most historical sources that have come down to modern times indicate the emergence of the Masonic Order as the successor to the famous Order of the Templars, tragically defeated by Philip IV the Beautiful in 1312. However, the masons' philosophy is similar to the Templar. Although the first, according to the same historical notes, were “in the service of the Jews, and they professed not the God of Christian, but the God of Judaism” —in fact, the undertakings of both orders were permeated with light and greatness, a desire to live in peace, love and harmony. The path leading to the development of true humanity and world moralityfreedom of conscience and the principle of solidarity, equally applicable to most religious and philosophical currents.
In the Middle Ages, in the meantime, the Gothic flourished - with it began the construction of stately, at the same time gloomy and sky-high buildings. Architects and builders propagandized the idea of a better future, which all humanity expects, transferring their confident thoughts on this matter in their work.
The Masonic Order began with the organization of its builders, who had a solid experience and devoted to the secrets of the art of building. Later, those wishing to join the Order, but not possessing any special skills and not belonging to the masons, became followers of God's work on earth, as they were the builders of true life forms.

The Constitution was issued to all the Lodges, at the head of which stood the directing Masters, Venerablis (aka Prefects, Superiorors, Chairs).
The Assistant (Assistant, Deputy) Manager was called the Assistant Master. For greater unity and order, many lodges located close to each other merged into a single Great Lodge or the Higher Office, which subsequently concluded concordat with each other (terms of relationship or contract). One such concordat was even printed in 1817 under Alexander I by two great lodges of Russia.
To create such an organization in the Middle Ages, propagandizing the ideas of inner freedom and belief in a better future, was considered, at a minimum, a dangerous undertaking. Among the noble brothers themselves there was such a punishment as the death penalty, if the secrets of the Order were indulged in a pen, brush, chisel, or other tool that is understandable for perception. All secret knowledge was transmitted exclusively in oral speech, and then after the oath about keeping silence.
However, with the growth of the organization, it became impossible to hide the work of the Freemasons from prying eyes, and modern masonryHaving the support of famous influential people, he considers himself so strong at all that he speaks openly and does not hide his work. A companion can be everywhere among students, but for them he is only a student. The master may be everywhere among his comrades and disciples; but it happens incognito: for comrades - he is a friend, for students - a student.

Masons worship the devil. Such a myth is constantly fueled by anti-mason sources. So is there something in common between them and respectable people? According to the semi-legendary history, Freemasonry traces its history to the Templars, who were originally military monks who defended pilgrims. Over time, the order has grown, becoming the order of large landowners, bankers, diplomats and scholars. Under their patronage in construction, the guild of freemasons was born. However, in 1307, the Order was crushed by King Philip IV, who did not want to share his power. On the courts of the Inquisition, under torture, a testimony appeared about the secret worship of knights to idol Baphomet. But it is still not clear what the word itself means; no object of worship of the Templars has been found. Freemasonry in a form similar to the modern one appeared at the beginning of the 18th century, but there was no mention of its connection with the devil, and it is not surprising, since representatives of English nobility were in the box. But the stories about the worship of Freemasons Satan arose in the 19th century in France, and this was due to the decline of interest in the Catholic Church in connection with the development of science. Therefore, a real enemy was needed, and the talk about the conspiracy of the Jews had long been bored by everyone. The essence has not changed, but there is no longer any connection with Satan. Today, in general, rituals use the wording "the giver of light" in order to avoid interpretations. By the way, it is worth noting that the origins of the Masonic rituals largely lie in the Old and New Testaments and other holy books, so that, accusing the masons of Satanism, all believers can be blamed with equal success for this sin.
Masons help each other, like mafia clans. Opponents argue that, entering into the box, a person gives an oath to obey only his brothers in the order, who may well use a person at their discretion. After all, for a mason there is no fatherland, his homeland is the whole world. By the way, what's surprising is that people generally help each other? Can't you blame people just for the opportunity and desire to help? It is interesting how these aid mechanisms are implemented. If in the Middle Ages secret signs and whole rituals of their exchange were developed, then nowadays the mason goes abroad, being supplied with a special passport or certificate. But a similar system exists in other international organizations. If Freemasonry is perceived as a corrupting element for the life of a country, then it is strange that the states where the masons are most influential are rich enough. If we assume that there is some kind of struggle, including against Russia, then why for so many centuries there has been no success from the activities of this "powerful" organization? I must say that in the West since the beginning of the XIX century there were lodges that just set themselves the goal of helping their members. Inside the organization, only everyday affairs were discussed, the fraternity itself had distinctive signs and solemn rituals. Subsequently, due to their activities, modern trade unions appeared. For example, the Order of the Knights of the Maccabees included up to 200,000 members, its members wore a magnificent shape, reminiscent of the costumes of Freemasons and Templars. Over time, the order has become a regular insurance company. You can recall the Knights of Pythaeus, the Order of Labor and many others. So how did the masons differ from them? Only by the presence of a semi-mystic component? Already since the 18th century, mutual aid structures have been formed in the West, it is not surprising that such a phenomenon also appeared in the masonic lodges. Perhaps the success of Western civilization is due to the fact that a person in trouble was given a second chance.
It was the masons who kindled the revolution. First of all, the role of the Freemasons in stirring up the Great French Revolution is mentioned. The emergence of this myth is associated with the place of imprisonment of Louis XVI - the castle Templó where the leadership of the ancient order of the Templars once housed. From there, the king was taken to execution, as five centuries before that they were taken to execution by Jacques de Molay, the last grandmaster of the order. The circle seemed to close. Rumor has it that during the execution, someone watered his hands with the blood of the king and exclaimed: "Jacques de Molay you are avenged!". It’s just not clear if the revolutions were carried out by the Freemasons, being descendants of the Templars, then why did they suffer because of the events? If before the revolution in Paris there were 67 lodges, then during it there were only 3. The fact is that in French Freemasonry most of them were aristocrats who did not need social upheavals. Of course, some of them followed new ideas, but many people paid with their lives. Interestingly, Freemasonry traditionally shuns politics, in the lodges talking on this topic is prohibited. A prominent Russian Freemason, Baron Reichel, wrote: "Any freemasonry that has political forms is false; and if you notice at least a shadow of political forms, connections and dissolution of the words of equality and liberty, then read it as false." Consider the events of the Russian revolution of 1917. It is alleged that almost the entire composition of the Provisional Government consisted of masons. However, in fact, only Kerensky, Nekrasov and Konovalov in the first composition were members of the masons' box. Nekrasov himself later wrote about the role of Freemasonry in the February events: "... Freemasonry appeared in Russia with Peter I. First of all, Freemasonry is a secret order, so the whole truth about it will not work, especially since it is hidden at the depth of ages. If we talk about operational Freemasonry, which included the builders and architects themselves, then it turned out in our country in 1040, along with Anthony the Roman, who, curiously as legend has it, sailed on stone. When Freemasonry implies penetration into Russia, they mean operational Freemasonry, which is not directly connected with construction. Allegedly, after visiting London in 1698, Peter I was taken to the lodge by the Englishman Christopher Wren. The president of the box was Jacob Bruce, and Peter himself was the second officer. According to another version, the president was Lefort.
However, according to official sources, the history of Freemasonry in Russia dates back to 1731, when Captain John Phillips was approved by the Grand Provincial Master of Russia. And already in 1740, the Englishman Kate, who had become quite Russianized by that time, became the Master. The first Russian lodge, dubbed the “Silence” was formed in St. Petersburg in 1750, the development of Freemasonry was spurred by Catherine the Great’s interest in it, but not for long. However, there are ambiguities. The fact is that the establishment of the Great Lodge in 1731 implied the existence of at least three provincial by that time, otherwise what was it united? In addition, it is logical to assume, knowing the structure of the lodge, that the number of masters at that time should be at least 100. So, nevertheless, the counting is conducted from Peter? Scientists tried to find some documents about how Peter joined the order, but found nothing. Of course, perhaps the papers were simply destroyed by the Nazis, who were known as ardent fighters against the Freemasons, and the archives themselves were rather closed and tangled. However, Peter often traveled incognito and could easily enter the box under a fictitious name, for example, Alekseev. The following reasoning speaks in favor of the version of Peter the Mason. The king was looking for technical achievements, trying to attract scientists and engineers to Russia. And, being a freemason, and not just a rich savage, he could take advantage of connections among brothers to achieve a goal. Apparently, Peter, has reached the desired. Also important is the position of the Second Officer - she was just suitable for a royal person who did not want to burden herself with management also with a lodge. At the same place, Peter could well play a weighty role, without falling into the routine troubles of organizational work. So the version about the Second Officer gives a strange authenticity to the myth. Interesting in this regard is the history of the creation of the monument to Peter the Bronze Horseman. The fact is that the sculptor Falcone insisted that the horse stand on a stone, citing the fact that Peter means "stone." A huge stone was carried from afar, and on the way sculptures suddenly decided to trim a stone. It is curious that the stone is one of the symbols of Freemasonry, it would be symbolic to put the first Russian mason on the stone. But the finishing of the stone indicates that the soul of the person who entered the box has already been processed, but the unpolished stone would say that the person is just preparing to join the ranks of masons, his soul is still unbridled. Many would like to see more obvious symbols of Freemasonry on the monument. For example, George Washington stands with a trowel and in an apron near the Masonic altar. Where is more obvious? According to another version, the composer was sacrificed by masons, as in the Magic Flute he revealed the secrets of their rites. The requiem was ordered to Mozart precisely by the Freemasons, as if the news that he was chosen by the victim. However, common sense suggests that Mozart wrote only music, and the libretto, that is, directly the text was written by another mason - Schikaneder, who in turn borrowed the plot from the German Wieland. Interestingly, neither one nor the other suffered from the masons, although they were involved in the disclosure of the secrets of society. And the reasons for the death of the composer are unclear. On November 8, 1791, Mozart conducts at the opening of the temple, and after 2 days he becomes ill, with the result that on December 5 he dies. Assumptions about the causes of death of more than a dozen, poisoning at the hands of Salieri, only the most famous of them. The circumstances surrounding the death of Mozart suggest that he was poisoned by mercury, but by whom? But this is simply explained - children of the elite are traditionally trained at Yale, it is not surprising that they subsequently make a good career. One can hardly assume that the “Skull and the bones” are ruled by the USA, since the student society is mainly engaged in the entertainment of the members themselves, sometimes indulging in digging up the bones. Of course, brothers in society help each other, but this custom is also inherent in other student associations. Usually, university management is usually neutral towards such associations, although many are unkindly - because instead of studying, students are engaged in outside affairs. After studying the rituals of brotherhoods, we can assume that the entourage "Skull and Bones" was largely borrowed from the German Masonic Order "Black Brothers". But here it is impossible to consider the “Skull and Bones” as a Masonic organization. The American brotherhood only copied the German, which, in turn, copied the masonic orders. If we talk about the secret societies that rule the country, then why not recall the "Bohemian Grove" which includes the richest people in the United States, and membership costs $ 12,000 a year. Although talk about business in the club is prohibited, and rituals, including those based on masonic ones, are increasingly parody and comic. All the 15 great generals of the War of Independence were Freemasons, it is not surprising that the first presidents were members of the lodges. The most Masonic president was Harry Truman, who passed all the degrees of several statutes, was the leader of the Red Cross of Constantine, one of the inter-masonian orders. Bush was also a Freemason, but his son did not enter the box, saying that he did not understand the need for such an act. Clinton also did not become a full-fledged freemason. Consider the structure of Freemasonry in the United States. Each state has its own Great Lodge, while they do not obey each other. Sometimes boards are convened that resolve common differences. So it is impossible for a lodge of a certain state to influence the general American government and even more so on world politics. Usually, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission and the Bildelberg Club are called the instruments of influence of Freemasonry on world politics. The Council on Foreign Relations was founded in 1921 and is currently funded by large corporations. It includes about 4,200 members who, behind closed doors, develop the concept of state foreign policy. There is nothing masonic about it; moreover, it has become known that Madeleine Albright is a member of the Council, and a woman cannot be present at all in Masonic structures at all! The trilateral commission brings together representatives of the United States, Europe and Asia (represented by Japan and South Korea). The organization includes the largest bankers and industrialists, its purpose is to discuss world problems. But what can be masons in Japan? The Bilderberg club appeared in 1954, uniting the European and American political and economic elite. Although the meetings are held in secrecy, it is impossible to completely conceal the concentration in one place of so many large buds, therefore the world community always follows the club with interest. In fact, this organization is not an executive board, each decision later still goes through the G8 meetings, through the IMF or the world bank. To assert that the Bilderberg club is built like a lodge is ridiculous, since its structure absolutely does not coincide with the Masonic one. Regarding Israel, it can be said that Freemasonry in this country arose only at the end of the 19th century, today it is recognized only in the English Lodge. Today there are no more than three thousand masons in Israel, and only half of them are active, and besides, none of the prominent politicians in the lodges have been noted. Local "masons" do not participate in politics and have no influence on either the external or the internal course of the state. It is interesting that in Latin American politics, as in the United States, many politicians are members of Masonic lodges, but even there secret organizations play no role in the political life of the country.
At present, world freemasonry is divided into three main streams: regular (conservative), liberal and traditional. This process took shape in the middle of the 20th century. The United Grand Lodge of England (OVLA) in 1929-1938. published common standards for the boxes - the principles of regularity of Freemasonry, that is, compliance with the old traditions and rules - Landmarks. Among the principles of regularity, it is important to note the following:
1) faith in God for every mason as a fundamental requirement and the presence in the box of the Holy Book (or several) in accordance with the faith of those present, as well as making commitments to it;
2) the exclusion of religious and political issues from the masonic assembly;
3) admission to membership in the Order only men;
4) the establishment of the Grand Lodge of another regular Grand Lodge or three regular Grand Lodge;
5) the sovereignty of each Grand Lodge;
6) the traditional nature of the organization;
7) refusal to attend meetings of irregular and near-Masonry organizations as “illegal”.
Regular (conservative) Grand Lodges after the work of special commissions are recognized by the United Grand Lodge of England. In our country, such a regular organization is the Great Lodge of Russia. Regular masons believe that dedication of women is unacceptable in the Regal Art, since in the historical period of the formation of the Order in the XVII-XVIII centuries. the candidate was required to be a free man. The woman was then dependent on her father and husband. Talk about her freedom is not necessary. In addition, the presence of Kamenshitz women in the medieval guilds of craftsmen-builders was not observed. Until 1945, women were not allowed into the closed English clubs of aristocrats, a variety of which are Masonic lodges. However, women can attend the events of masons, specially designed for family holidays.
Mason must be a "man of good morals", financially secure, physically healthy, mentally adequate, and not having criminal prosecutions. Regular Masonic unions do not admit into their ranks atheists and pagan polytheists who do not believe in the One God the Creator, as well as sectarians who deny any oaths and obligations (Quakers, Anabaptists, Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Subbotniks, etc.). With suspicion, distrust and prejudice, the Order refers to candidates from among members of other initiating associations. In some Masonic jurisdictions, membership in other secret societies and fraternities becomes an obstacle to the admission of a candidate. In Russia, there is no such official legislative ban.
Liberal lodges refuse to comply with certain Landmarks, but continue to be called masonic ones. The most significant organization of liberal masons remains created in 1773-1786. "The Great East of France" and its lodges in different countries of the world. "Great East" in 1877 broke with the regular brothers, abandoning the obligatory faith in the Great Architect of the Universe and allowing entry into the Order of atheists. In addition, this Masonic union accepts women in its lodges and seeks to actively intervene in politics.
Traditional Masonic organizations observe Landmarks, declare faith in God, use the Bible laid on the altar in rituals, but for various reasons, including historical ones, they are not part of an international regular union headed by the Great Lodge of England. Of the founders of Russian freemasonry, only one organization — the Grand National Lodge of France, founded in 1913 — was regular. As for the Grand Lodge of France, which arose in 1895 and practiced three workshop degrees, it belongs to the traditional irregular direction.
It should be borne in mind that the Russian lodges belonging to the "Great East of France" and the Great Bed of France were in deep crisis. A negative factor was the excessive politicization of irregular Freemasonry, its adherence to the idea of “united Europe”, in which Russia, vast in territory, could not find a place for itself. All this led to the disintegration and closure of almost all the lodges of the WWF and many lodges of the WLF. By 1995, the majority of Russian masons, including G. B. Dergachev, subsequently proclaimed head of the Grand Lodge of Russia, had moved to regular lodges created under the auspices of the VNLF.
As a result of the merger of the lodges founded by French masons on June 24, 1995, on the day of the patron of the Order of John the Baptist, an independent Grand Lodge of Russia (VLR) appeared, which was soon recognized by the Great Obediences of other countries, and first of all by the Great Lodge of England, as the only regular organizations in Russia. Maternal for VLR became the Grand National Lodge of France. Initially, five symbolic workshops entered VLR, subsequently their number increased to twenty. The names of the lodge, as a rule, received by the names of the old pre-revolutionary Masonic organizations.
At first, it seemed that representatives of the Russian university intelligentsia, including some professors who had long been professionally engaged in the philosophy and history of the Masonic movement, predominantly entered Freemasonry. The brothers had difficulties with financing and were forced to rent rooms for arranging lodges. Subsequently, however, these problems began to be solved. Thus, the founding congress related to the official opening of the Grand Lodge of Russia took place in one of the buildings near the famous Lubyanka. The Moscow press widely covered the historical event. At the ceremony and banquet in the restaurant "Central" was attended by many foreign guests. The first place among them was occupied by the delegation VLNF, headed by the Great Master Claude Charbonnier. Present were some Russian bankers and politicians, including the well-known human rights activist Sergey Kovalev. According to press reports, Inturbank presented a master ring with eleven diamonds to the elected Grand Master of VLR, G. B. Dergachyov.
On July 6, 1996, with the support of the French Masons, the regular Supreme Soviet of Russia of the 33rd degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Charter was established in Moscow, under the direction of which the Russian brothers are devoted to the highest degrees. This Masonic structure subsequently began to claim the role of the supreme body for all regular lodges, which contradicted the tradition of administration established in the world. In 1998, Russian masons created the Russian Commonwealth, bringing together brothers from various lodges.
The Constitution of the Great Lodge of Russia, adopted by the Assembly on February 1, 2003, defined the Twelve Principles of Regularity, that is, the truth of the Masonic organization, its connection with the Tradition:
“1) Freemasonry is a dedicatory fraternity based on the traditional belief in God - the Great Architect of the Universe.
2) Freemasonry is based on the Ancient Commandments and Landmarks (that is, the principles, ordinances) of brotherhood, which contain the main special traditions of the Order, the observance of which is an essential condition for the regularity of jurisdiction.
3) Freemasonry is an Order that accepts as its members only people of free and impeccable reputation, willing to work in the name of the realization of the ideals of peace, love and brotherhood.
4) Freemasonry aims at the moral improvement of its members and, ultimately, of all mankind as a whole.
5) Freemasonry imposes on all brothers the obligation to strictly and precisely observe the rituals and to preserve the traditions of Masonic symbolism as the basis for recognition by other members of the spiritual initiating Order.
6) Freemasonry imposes on all brothers an obligation to respect each other's opinion and faith. It prohibits any discussion of brothers on political and religious issues that are controversial. It considers itself the unchanged center of fraternal unity, tolerance and mutual understanding, fruitful harmony between people who, outside of it, are prone to disputes and discord among themselves.
7) Freemasons make their solemn obligations on the Book of the Sacred Law of their faith, so that their commitment may acquire for them the power of a sacred and unbreakable oath.
8) Masons leave the profane world and gather in lodges in which the three Great Light Orders are always present and in sight: the Book of Sacred Law, Circular and Square, and work there with diligence and zeal, in accordance with the ritual and principles and invariable provisions of the Constitution and the General Rules of Obedience.
9) Masons take in their lodges only people of good morals and impeccable reputation, loyal to the secular authorities and prudent, deserving and in all respects deserving to be called Brothers, believers in the high destiny of man and the infinite power of the Eternal.
10) Masons in their boxes cultivate love for their country, respect for its laws and lawfully elected authorities. They consider labor in all its forms the highest and most honorable duty of man.
11) Masons, by their example and constant persistent efforts, bravely and with dignity observe the Masonic secret in the name of the prosperity of the Order.
12) Masons undertake to help each other and protect each other, even at the risk of their own lives. Under any circumstances, they maintain the calm and balance necessary for perfect self-control. ”
A great success for the Great Lodge of Russia was its recognition of more than ninety Grand Lodges of regular Freemasonry (altogether more than one hundred). VLR recognized as such regular leading Masonic administrative-territorial associations, such as the United Grand Mother Lodge of England, the Grand Mother Lodge of Scotland, the Grand Mother Lodge of Ireland, the Conference of the Great Masters of the Great Lodges of the United States of America, the Conference of the United Grand Lodges of Germany, the Grand National Lodge of France, The Grand Lodge of Brazil, the Grand Lodge of Japan, the Grand Lodge of Switzerland “Alpina”, the Regular Grand Lodge of Italy, the “Great East of the Netherlands”, the Regular Great L Ms Portugal, Turkey Grand Lodge, Grand Lodge of Austria and others.
In the 90s. the number of lodges and the number of their members constantly increased. Fraternal ties were established with foreign, primarily Western European and American Grand Lodges. VLR has become the maternal Great Lodge for the brothers of some CIS countries. Our masons contributed, in particular, to the establishment of independent Grand Lodges of Armenia, Azerbaijan and other post-Soviet states. Large-scale business and government bodies of Russia began to cooperate with the Freemasons. All this engendered fears in society.
The Soros Foundation, the Order of the Eagle, the Magisterium, Reform, Revival, Rotary, PEN, Interaction, International Russian Club, etc. clubs that came to the country from the West were called Masonic organizations. anti-mason authors like professor oa Platonov, argued that in Russia there are more than five hundred institutions of free-masons of various types, uniting at least ten thousand adepts. The near-masonic organizations are also strong - the so-called “white Freemasonry”, penetrating into all spheres of the country's life, actively taking root in the ranks of the economic and political elite. In fact, the total number of members of the lodges in the 90s. hardly exceeded the number of 400-500 people. At present (2010) the number of masons of various obediences in Russia is hardly more than 2,000. Moreover, half of them (up to 900-1000 people) belong to the VLR.
The first six years after the formation of the VLP were characterized by the discovery of new lodges in cities and an increase in the number of members, reaching nearly five hundred people. Soon, however, among the Russian regular Freemasonry, there was a split into a "conservative" and "liberal" (or "democratic") wing. The conservatives insisted on elitism, secrecy, uniting mostly rich and influential people. The ideal candidate for entry into the Order was seen by them to come from the upper part of the middle class, that is, a person well materially secured. The democratically-minded Masonic intelligentsia protested against this leadership policy, speaking out against its active interaction with the political and economic elite, against interfering in the affairs of the VLR of the independent Supreme Council of the 33rd degree.
Constant conflicts within the ruling board of the Great Officers led to the formation of a group of lodges and individual brothers opposed to the leadership of the Grand Lodge, helped to confuse Dergachev from the post of Grand Master. Due to intractable contradictions there was a final split. Those who disagreed with the policy of the leadership of the VLR “liberals” (six lodges) left the organization and in the summer of 2001 created their own jurisdiction - the Russian Regular Grand Lodge (RRDL).
The next six years after the formation of the RRVL, they passed in attempts to break the Grand Lodge to receive world recognition. At first, RRVL sought to do this within the framework of regular Freemasonry, but unsuccessfully. Then she tried to do it in a traditional union. RRVL was losing the fight for the influence of VLR, in which matters were in fact quite bad. By the spring of 2006, it became obvious that two thirds of the Great Officers were in opposition to the already third Grand Master of VLR and more than half of the country's lies. Disagreements were associated with suspicions of misuse of funds and ambiguity of plans for the future work of the organization. In addition, the Grand Lodge refused to implement any projects in the field of education and charity in an external, outside the Temple ("profane") world. There is a threat in the prospect of withdrawal of international recognition due to non-compliance with the requirements of regularity. These circumstances led to the convocation of the scandalous Extraordinary Assembly of the Grand Lodge on May 29, 2006. The Parties not only failed to reach a unanimous decision, but even failed to open their work in a ritual manner, because at the initiative of one of the opposing factions law enforcement agencies intervened. The next day, May 30, 2006, two conflicting groups held assemblies separately and each elected their own Great Masters. Thus, the original Grand Lodge of Russia was divided in two. In this case, both groups retained the original name - VLR.
Over the next year, the leaders of both organizations actively defended their point of view and exchanged accusations against foreign Grand Lodges, seeking to play the role of arbitrators. There were accusations of bribing individuals involved in the split, and a host of other reproaches. Maternal for Russia, the Great National Lodge of France, the United Great Lodge of England and the Commission for the Recognition of the Conference of Great Masters of North America facilitated the holding of the VLR Unification Assembly, scheduled for June 30, 2007. It is interesting that both groups of Russian Freemasons met in one Moscow hotel, but in its different halls. The idea of unification failed because initially the negotiations on the unified voting procedure ended in failure. Both groups in their meetings again elected their own Great Masters. Thus, the split was not settled, and even more aggravated, which can be explained by the general lack of readiness of Russian free masonry at this historical stage for independent constructive work, acute interpersonal and ideological differences. The bitter conflict between the two Russian Masonic centers and their individual members, which began around 2000 and escalated in 2005–2007, continues to this day, occasionally spilling over to the Internet and press pages.
Most delegations of the Honorable Lodge from the regions of the country that took part in the work of the General Assembly of the Grand Lodge of Russia on June 30, 2007, as evidenced by official documents from the Internet, “in accordance with the Constitution of the Grand Lodge of Russia, the General Rules of the Grand Lodge of Russia, customs and traditions of the Order of the Free masons ”was“ solemnly elected, installed and dressed the new Great Master Very Honorable Brother Andrei Vladimirovich Bogdanov ”. It is interesting that at that time A. V. Bogdanov was the leader of the oldest democratic party in Russia. The opposition pointed out that the election of the current politician as the head of the Masonic obedience goes against the world masonic traditions. Bogdanov did not hide his Freemasonry during the 2008 presidential election campaign. He was one of several candidates who opposed current President Dmitry Medvedev.
After the split in the Great Lodge of Russia, the so-called “reorganization of workshops” took place. Part of the boxes was closed due to the transfer of their members to another Masonic obedience or lack of a quorum (at least seven masons-masons are required) and ritual meetings for a long time. Separated opposition group of masons began to lead the negotiations on the union with the Russian Regular Great Lodge (RRVL). A joint program was developed jointly. On the basis of RRVL in 2007-2008 It was organized by the United Grand Lodge of Russia (OVLR). Currently, it is an irregular (not recognized by England and the official world Freemasonian community) organization. CVRIs recognize the same irregular associations of European masons, for example, the Grand Lodge of France. Ritual practices do not differ from those in regular boxes. On October 11, 2008 (in the Masonic calendar — October 11, 6008), at its Representative Assembly “in the east of the city” of St. Petersburg, the United Grand Lodge of Russia was finally formed and gained its new Constitution and General Regulations. OVLR has fraternal relations with the Union of Traditional Grand Lodges under the leadership of the Grand Lodge of France. The United Grand Lodge declares that it is composed of representatives of a wide variety of professions: creative workers, teachers, businessmen, doctors, employees, military men of all ages and all sorts of political convictions and religious beliefs.
The published Constitution of the United Grand Lodge of Russia is similar in its basic provisions to the Constitution of the rival regular Grand Lodge of Russia. The Constitution of the OVLR indicates that this Masonic union is "a lawfully established Federation of local and regional associations (lodges) of members ... of the Order of Free and Accepted Masons." Each Honorable Lodge, as a sign of respect for the tradition of freemasons, has its own autonomy, but must comply with the Constitution and the General Regulations (General Regulations) of the United Grand Lodge.
The CVRI is registered with the relevant Russian authorities as a non-profit organization that conducts its activities in full compliance with the laws and regulations of the country. The CVRI declares itself as “a sovereign and independent national entity extending its exclusive and undivided jurisdiction to all the Honorable Lodge of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Charter, practicing Freemasonry in three Symbolic Degrees (Apprentice, Apprentice, Master) throughout Russia.”
The supreme legislative power in the United Grand Lodge is vested in the Representative Assembly. Executive power is exercised by the Federal Council (Senate), the Supreme Court of Justice is the Supreme Bratsk Court, control over the expenditure of funds and the use of property is entrusted to the Audit Commission.
Representative General Assemblies (general meetings of leaders and representatives from local lodges) take place twice a year during the summer and winter solstice - between June 15 and July 15 (summer) and between December 15 and January 15 (winter). During the assembly, the Fraternal Duma, specially convened by the Senate, operates. The Duma has the authority to make changes to the Constitution and the General Regulations, to appoint replacements for the retired members of the Senate, to elect members of the College of the Bratsk Court and members of the Commissions of the Bratsk Duma. She also elects from among the current members of the Federal Council (Senate) the Grand Master - the Chairman of the Senate and the Great Officers - Heads of the Committees of the Federal Council on Directions. Elections of the Grand Master and the members of the Brotherhood Court are held by secret ballot.
The Senate is located in Moscow and consists of thirty-three members. Senators are elected by the Fraternal Duma from among the Masters nominated as candidates for this post by each Honorable Lodge and each Provincial Grand Lodge of the Regions by secret ballot. The composition of the Senate is updated annually by one third. Secret organization exists in the world for more than three hundred years. The official date of its foundation is considered to be the twenty-fourth of June 1717. It was then that ordinary artisans in London who built the temples united in a single Great Masonic Lodge. For example, at the moment in the United States about two million masons, and in the UK - three hundred thousand members of a secret society. Russia, of course, cannot be compared with European countries in the number of Freemasons, but now we already have more than one thousand of them. Masonic lodges of Russia are actively developing and increasing the number of their members. However, skeptics say that in reality there are many more Masons in our country than official statistics say. It's just that many prominent politicians and oligarchs carefully hide their belonging to a secret society. Is it really, no one knows.
Lodge classification
Interestingly, among the Freemasons there is a certain classification of lodges, which is not officially enshrined. However, it affects all members of the fraternity. Freemasons in Russia: historical facts
Masonic lodges in Russia were quite common. Many aristocrats were their members, which generated a large number of rumors and gossip about conspiracies of a secret society against the current government. In fact, these conversations had some basis, it was given by the very style of the monarchs to conduct Russian politics, resolving all issues behind the scenes. This habit formed during the Byzantine Empire and smoothly passed into the palaces of the Russian monarchs. It was on this fertile soil that rumors arose that the Masonic lodges of Russia are practically the creators and ideological inspirers of the country's domestic and foreign policy.
Masonic lodges in Moscow and other cities reached their heyday in the first half of the nineteenth century with the blessing of Alexander I. Georgiy Dergachev, who had been in this rank until 2007, was elected chairman of the Masonic Lodge of Russia.

According to the latest data in Moscow, there are already more than sixteen Masonic lodges, besides this, they exist in more than thirteen cities of Russia.
